Top Of The Pops Theme

Vince joins such luminaries as Led Zeppelin and Paul Hardcastle in having his music used for one of the theme tune's to the UK music programme 'Top Of The Pops'. Recorded at Vince's own studio, 378, and produced by Flood (Wonderland, The Circus and many other production credits too numerous to mention) this dynamic theme is presented here in a previously-unheard extended version.

Always (Acoustic)

Recorded live at the Strongroom studio in 1995, this perfectly beautiful track features Nic Johnston accompanying Vince on guitar. Nic, of course, later joined Erasure for several acoustic promotional appearances and radio sessions that autumn performing a similar, but subtly different, arrangement of the song.

Sono Luminus (Demo)

See entry for track 6

Science Week Theme

Recorded in 1994 for BBC Radio's Science Week, Vince's evocative composition draws heavily from Hoist's 'Planets Suite', particularly 'Mars - The Bringer Of War'. Brief excerpts of this piece were also used in a radio documentary as background music for Craig Charles' commentary. The track is presented here complete for the first time and should appeal to fans of Erasure's other instrumentals.

In My Arms (Acoustic)

The most recent recording on the CD, this lovely live recording was initially broadcast by 5FM In Johannesburg, South Africa, with performance later being broadcast over the internet. Backing vocals are provided by Samantha Smith, Jordan Bailey, John Gibbons and Xavier Barnett with acoustic guitar and additional whistling from Vince Clarke.

Rock Me Gently (Demo)

More finished productions than Rain, these demos for the Erasure self titled album illustrate the next stage in Vince and Andy's songwriting.

Each track consists of just one verse and chorus (all that had been written at the time they were recorded), with Andy singing the unfinished lyrics against a minimal synth backing.

My Foolish Heart (Live)

This song was performed by Andy as part of Radio 1's 'The Gospel According To...' programme, broadcast on Christmas Eve 1996. The song, originally perfonned by Sam Cooke in the film 'My Foolish Heart', was recorded in front of an audience mostly consisting of Boy Zone fans at the Union Chapel, Islington.

Rain (Demo)

This track is Vince and Andy's first run-through of the song, recorded shortly after it was composed. Very much a work-in-progress, this demo was recorded purely for reference and consists of all but the very barest bones of the song; Andy sings the melody whilst Vince provides a basic accompaniment on piano.

This track is intended as an example of how Erasure's songs begin life, with the various sections being pieced together and concludes with a brief reminder of the completed song. As this demo was recorded very roughly using a Microcassette recorder the sound quality is rather poor. Most of Erasure's demos over the years have been recorded using the same Microcassette recorder, and as they have all been recorded on the same Microcassette, most of their older demos have unfortunately long since been recorded over.
