Ask Erasure - "Andy Bell (Sept 2004)"
This Ask Erasure feature publishes the responses that Andy and Vince have given to questions that people have sent in. Feel free to submit questions via the Contact section.

1) What has inspired you for the title of your new single/album titles? (Shazza B)

Andy: 'Breathe' in with the new out with the old energy. 'Nightbird' seems quite ethereal & I have always been late to bed even as a child at school, quite romantic as long as you don't get caught by the alley cats!

02) What would you say is your personal all time favourite Erasure track of all time? (Kevin Bick)

Andy: Changes from time to time but I do love 'Siren Song'.

03) At the end of 2,000 Miles (Wild) Andy sings a little tune with the words, 'Nah nah nah, na nanna nanna na nah nah na na na na'... it sounds very similar to Blondie's 'Heart of Glass' I think. Was this a deliberate nod to her influence on your music or purely coincidental? :) (Andy Hagerty)

Andy: Definitely purely deliberate, She's a Goddess & I want to marry her. To do a duet with her is my life-long ambition & to be in a movie with her... well I would die. xxx

04) Will you ever release an official live album? (Mark)

Andy: Wait 'til the next Nightbird tour it's gonna be beautiful xx

05) Which track of recent years by any artiste, do you wish you had been involved with or wish you had written or sung on? (Debi Hill)

Andy: 'Song To The Siren' by This Mortal Coil featuring the stunning Elizabeth Fraser.

06) Which erasure video have you had the greatest influence on (direction-wise)? Did you enjoy the production of it and the end result? (Scott Mueller)

Andy: Biggest directorial influence was on 'A Little Respect', Vince & I & 'Fingers & Thumbs' & 'Rock Me Gently' I love all three.

07) I was wondering if you had ever seen Hedwig & The Angry Inch (musical or film) and had considered playing her, or had ever considered performing in a musical (again). (Michael)

Andy: Haven't seen it but would love to do any kind of collaborative work as far as musicals are concerned, writing & or appearing in them. My day will come!

08) What was your musical background before Erasure was formed? (Swetlana Velazquez)

Andy: Loved the glam end of the punk movement i.e. Blondie, Siouxsie & The Banshees,The Tourists, Lene Lovich then some of the early electro-pop like yours truly Yazoo, Japan, Soft Cell, Talking Heads, B52's etc.

09) What main stream music (if any) "pleases your eardrums?" (Shazza B)

Andy: Nothing mainstream at the moment listening to Spanish Euro-pop & The Best Of The Flirts produced by Bobby Orlando, Divine & early Pet Shop Boys. Forever a fan of Madonna, just went to see her live & she made us cry XXX
